Yellow fog warning for Leicester and Leicestershire on Friday morning
A yellow Met Office fog warning covers Leicester and Leicestershire until 10am on Friday 30 October, with slower journeys and bus and train delays possible.
If you are heading out on Friday 30 October, expect a slower start. A yellow weather warning for fog is in place for Leicester and Leicestershire, and buses and trains could be delayed.
The Met Office issued the warning at 4.18am on Friday. It runs until 10am. The Met Office said the thickest and most disruptive fog is expected during the morning rush hour.
What to expect
The fog is dense in places, with visibility below 100 metres at times. It should slowly thin, lift and clear later in the morning. Some rural spots in eastern England may not see it clear until the afternoon.
Journey times could be longer, and delays to bus and train services are possible. Flights and ferry travel may also be affected, with delays or cancellations to flights possible.
Where the warning applies
The warning mainly covers Leicestershire. It also takes in Leicester, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire in the East Midlands. In Nottinghamshire it includes parts of the south and east, such as Bingham and Newark. It stretches too into parts of the East of England, London and south east England, and the West Midlands, including Warwickshire.
Advice for travellers
The Met Office advised people to give themselves “extra journey time” and to check road conditions if driving. Drivers should know how to switch on their fog lights and check they work before setting off.
Passengers should check for updates from their travel company and follow its advice. The Met Office also said warnings can change, so it is worth keeping an eye on the forecast for your area.
