Leicester mayor pledges festive attraction amid Jubilee Square ice rink doubt
Leicester's mayor wants a city centre Christmas attraction despite doubt over the Jubilee Square ice rink, as the council explores alternatives.
Leicester could have a different Christmas attraction this year, with doubt surrounding the ice rink at Jubilee Square. Mayor Soulsby remains committed to staging a festive event in the city centre, BBC News reports.
The rink became a regular Christmas feature soon after Jubilee Square opened. Soulsby said it and the Christmas big wheel had “worked incredibly well”, helping the square become an established venue for city centre events.
Soulsby said: “It may be that we have to do something different this year.” He also suggested Leicester’s revamped market place could host festive attractions in future.
A Leicester City Council spokesperson said the authority was “currently looking at other options available” and hoped to give an update soon.
