On Sunday 15 November, the annual Nagar Kirtan procession is expected to draw thousands of participants, causing temporary disruption for drivers and bus passengers across Leicester.

Rolling road closures will be in place along the procession route, each for a short time only. Some bus operators will also need to use alternative routes, for a short time, as the procession crosses the city, Leicester City Council says. The council points people to the ATCLeicester account for traffic information.

The procession is due to leave Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara on East Park Road at about 11.30am. It will finish at Guru Nanak Gurdwara on Holy Bones Road, near St Nicholas Circle, at about 3pm.

The closures cover East Park Road, St Peter’s Road, Sparkenhoe Street, Swain Street, St George’s Way and Charles Street. Humberstone Gate, Clock Tower, East Gates, High Street, St Nicholas Place, St Nicholas Circle and Holy Bones are also affected.

Parking restrictions will apply on streets near East Park Road, including Leicester Street, Rosebery Street and Nottingham Street. Motorists are advised to expect delays, with advance signs warning them during the days leading up to the event.

The city council says Nagar Kirtan celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Sikhism’s first Guru and founder.
