Axe throwing, darts and Mexican food will be on offer at Highcross when Rocket Room opens in December. The activity bar has confirmed St Peter’s Square as its second location, according to Leicester Mercury.

The business previously sought a premises licence under the name Rocket Room Leicester Highcross Ltd for Unit R4, near the square. Café Rouge occupied that unit before closing in 2020.

Covering 4,000 sq ft, the Leicester site will be Rocket Room’s first standalone venue. It will also be the first in the business to serve a full food menu.

Games, cocktails and tacos

The layout will bring together four darts lanes, a pair of shuffleboards, one lane for axe throwing and two tables for pool. A central cocktail bar will also serve beer and wine.

The Mexican menu will feature tacos filled with pork carnitas or baja fish, alongside loaded barbacoa fries. Char-grilled bavette served with chimichurri is also planned.

Second venue for the business

Rocket Room began trading in Leicester Square in April. Founder Mike Pearson, who also founded Elangeni Hospitality Group, said Highcross was the first of several Midlands locations the business was targeting for the coming year.

The privately funded company intends to reach 15 venues over two years, with further openings planned for 2027.

Highcross Leicester centre director Michelle Menezes welcomed the planned addition to St Peter’s Square’s dining and leisure offer ahead of Christmas. The precise opening date and launch offers are due to be announced.
