Leicester’s National Space Centre Discovery Team has won a 2026 Sir Arthur Clarke Award for its space education and outreach work across the UK.
The team won the Education and Outreach Team category for learning activities delivered at the centre, online and in communities. Its work includes hands-on workshops, expert talks, virtual lessons, school visits and community outreach.
The activities support teachers and engage families, helping learners of different ages and backgrounds explore connections between space science and everyday life.
Charlotte Isham, Discovery Director at the National Space Centre, said the award wonderfully recognised the team’s passion, expertise and dedication. The team takes immense pride in receiving recognition for this work from its peers throughout the UK space sector.
The Airbus Defence and Space Early Careers Team and UKROC/ADS were also shortlisted in the category.
The National Space Centre has welcomed almost six million visitors since it opened, including more than 1.5 million schoolchildren.
The British Interplanetary Society organises the annual awards with the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation. The 2026 awards attracted 69 nominations across ten categories, with 51 judges taking part in two rounds of voting. The awards have been presented annually since 2005 to recognise achievements supporting space activity in the UK.
