Toothache rarely waits for a convenient hour. Our directory lists 23 dental practices across the city. The list under the map shows addresses and, where recorded, phone numbers and opening hours.

Finding an emergency dentist

Be honest about what the list can do. It shows where practices are, not who has a free slot today. Opening hours are recorded for only 5 of the 23, and 5 have a phone number on file. For urgent pain, swelling or an injury, call your own dentist first. If they are shut, their answerphone message normally gives an out-of-hours route.

If you do not have a dentist, the NHS website and the NHS helpline can point you to urgent dental care. For severe swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, use the national emergency number straight away.

NHS or private

Many readers ask whether a practice takes NHS patients or only private ones. This is not in our data, and it changes often. Ask when you ring, and ask about the cost of an emergency visit before you go.

Dentists by neighbourhood

Highfields has the most listings, with 3. Stoneygate, Westcotes and Aylestone Park have 2 each. Fourteen other neighbourhoods have a single practice, among them Knighton, Belgrave, Braunstone, Eyres Monsell and the West End. In the city centre, Black Friars and St Matthew’s have 1 each.

With so few per area, it often makes sense to check the neighbouring one too.

What the entries show

  • 5 practices have opening hours on file.
  • 4 have a website.
  • None is marked as wheelchair accessible. That usually means the detail is unknown, so ask.

The data comes from OpenStreetMap and can be out of date. If a practice has moved or closed, tell us and we will fix the list.
